CN Railway announced a plan today to build a $250 million, 400 acre rail distribution centre in the town of Milton, but already the town isn’t happy about it. The rail giant already owns the land and plans to build the facility between Britannia road and lower Baseline but the mayor says the town will do everything it can to fight it. “It’s got the potential of having a really negative impact on a growing community.”

The town says the terminal would operate 24/7 transferring cargo containers between rail cars and trucks and it would bring 4 more trains in to Milton every day. CN says it chose Milton because of its access to major highways, it says the new facility is expected to create more than a thousand direct and indirect jobs in the region.

But council says this doesn’t fit with what the town has planned for the area. A residential development is being built just north of there on Britannia where people have already purchased land for homes.
