The mayor of Burlington says municipal employees will have to wear masks for the next six weeks amid an increase in illnesses.

Marianne Meed Ward says rising absences due to illness have made it challenging to deliver city services.

Members of the public in Burlington will not be required to wear masks, though it is recommended that all adults wear a mask in indoor public spaces.

City workers are now experiencing burnout from covering the work of their sick coworkers.

Meed Ward says the mask mandates for city workers in Burlington will be lifted sooner if health conditions change for the better.
