The City of Hamilton is taking a bigger hit than expected from a cybersecurity incident that occurred earlier this year.
The cost as revealed by a November 2024 costing report is $9.6 million, an increase from the $7.4 million costs reported in July.
A cyberattack was initially discovered on Feb. 25 and has since been confirmed by the city as a ransomware attack.
As a result of the attack, a number of city services were affected including city phone lines, emails and websites and many functions of the HSR’s computerized onboard scheduling.
City staff will present a report to a council committee next week outlining the costs for response, recovery, restoration and rebuilding.
