Several children were taken to hospital or treated on scene after experiencing nausea and coughing at the La Salle Park pool in Burlington.
Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, police, fire and ambulance responded to the park for reports of chlorine contamination. 12 children were treated at the scene, while 7 others were transported to hospital, one in serious condition.
The City of Burlington says that during routine maintenance, water levels had dropped causing disinfectant to enter the pool at higher than normal levels, but still within the recommended range. The levels have since been further lowered. The City says it is reviewing this incident to prevent future incidents.
