Chilly April

Don’t let today’s sunny and warm weather fool you. While it felt like spring today winter-like weather is returning and the polar vortex is being blamed. The chilly blast is expected to hang around for the first half of April.
Come Sunday temperatures will plummet to around the freezing mark. That’s about 8 degrees colder than normal for the start of April. The shot of cold weather will be a shock to the system for many since this winter brought warmer-than-normal weather.
“Recording breaking heat in December, January was warmer than normal, February warmer than normal, March will end up some what milder than normal, but the trend now as we head into April is going to be shifting and we are going to see that cold air come down.” Geoff Coulson, Meteorologist.
The chilly system will hit parts of Ontario during the first weeks of April before moving into Atlantic Canada. A polar vortex is a large cyclone of cold air usually from the Artic or North Pole that travels south. Environment Canada says the vortex could possibly drop snow this weekend. However, they are calling for a warmer than normal start to May.
