Charges laid in Niagara Falls June collision that killed motorcyclist

A Niagara Falls man has been charged in a two-vehicle collision that killed a motorcyclist in the city in mid-June.

The incident occurred in the late evening of June 12 at the intersection of Thorold Stone and Dorchester roads.

Brian Hawkins, 22, of Niagara Falls was operating a motorcycle when he was hit by a 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

He died that evening in the hospital due to his injuries.

After an “extensive investigation” by Niagara police’s collision reconstruction unit, a 19-year-old man was charged with careless operation causing death under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police have not yet released the name of the accused but say that he will make a court appearance in early January.
