Change to birth certificate

Ontario’s human rights tribunal says trans-gendered people should be able to change the gender on their birth certificate — without undergoing surgery.

The tribunal says requiring surgery is discriminatory.

It has advised the Ontario government of its findings and has given the government six months to change its practice.

The government also has to publicize any changes within the trans-gendered community.
