Celil gets ‘More’ support

He can’t see them, hear them, or even know they care. But a Burlington man has the strength of more than a thousand students behind him.
Huseyin Celil has been in a Chinese prison for the last five years, kept in isolation, denied medical care, and fed one meal a day.
He’s not allowed any contact with his family, or Canadian diplomatic officials, and at the moment he’s facing a life sentence.
But as Scot Urquhart reports, the students of St Thomas More High School are trying to change that:

The Chinese claim that Celil trained in a Pakistani terrorist camp. They say he’s part of a radical muslim sect, that intends to force the separation of an oil-rich section of northwestern China, in order to create an independent state for Muslim Uighers.
So far, the Chinese government has refused even to discuss the matter with Canadian diplomats.
They say Celil is a Chinese citizen, and the matter is a domestic affair, in which they warn, Canada should not interfere.
