The Carney government is looking to “right the ship” when it comes to the nation’s military and defense capabilities. Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Canada’s first-ever defence industrial strategy, which includes new guidance on procurement and funding decisions. The federal government’s goal is to try and reduce the reliance on purchasing advanced military equipment, owned and controlled by other nations. Carney says they aim to have at least 70 percent of their defense contracts awarded to Canadian firms.
