Two people were taken to hospital yesterday after a driver took a wrong turn on the QEW, sending their vehicle plunging into a large construction hole.

Members of the OPP’s Highway Safety Division tweeted about the incident last night shortly before 6 p.m.

A white sedan drove into a large open pit near Mississauga Rd., sending two occupants of the vehicle to hospital with minor injures.

The area is currently under construction as part of a QEW/Credit River Improvements project.

The QEW and Credit River Project involves constructing a new twin bridge north of the existing Credit River Bridge, replacing the Mississauga Rd. overpass as well as rehabilitation of the existing Credit River Bridge and widening and improving of the QEW (Image courtesy/EDCO EllisDon and GIP JV).

Police say the driver had to drive through a marked construction zone before hitting the hole.

The OPP’s Highway Safety Division is investigating.
