The captain of the Costa Concordia who’s accused of abandoning ship now says he wound up in a lifeboat by accident.
Francesco Schettino says “I didn’t even have a life jacket because I had given it to one of the passengers. I was trying to get people to get into the boats in an orderly fashion. Suddenly, since the ship was at a 60 to 70 degree angle, I tripped and I ended up in one of the boats. That’s how I found myself there.”
Not a lot of people are buying that explanation, but on the water the search for passengers still missing from the Costa Concordia remains on hold, as the ship still isn’t considered safe for crews to board.
Officials say 11 people are confirmed dead, and 21 still missing after the ship capsized Friday.
