Twelve Canadians deported from Israel have now arrived in Turkey.
The activists say they were among the Global Sumud Flotilla participants detained by Israel last weekend trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The arrival in Turkey comes as video surfaced showing the Israeli Security Minister seemingly taunting the detained activists.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has since summoned Israel’s ambassador to Canada to discuss the handling of civilians abroad.
Anand says she’s received information describing the “appalling abuse of Canadians who were detained in Israel.”
She also says consular officials are on the ground making sure the Canadians get urgent medical care, so they can return to Canada as soon as possible.
Israel’s navy intercepted hundreds of people on 41 boats involved in the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters near Cyprus on Monday.
Prime Minister Mark Carney posted on social media Thursday saying that the treatment of those people shown in the video is “abominable” and “unacceptable.”
