Canadian success story: Refugee now owns Bruno’s Schools of Hair Design

Bruno’s Schools of Hair Design have been cutting hair and training stylists for 69 years. For much of that time, owned and operated by John Morrison who trained more than 20 thousand stylists and won their loyalty.
Among the graduates of Morrison’s school is Sima Sakha who came to Hamilton 20 years ago as a refugee from Afghanistan after the takeover by the Taliban. Sakha and her family escaped through the mountains into Pakistan.
“When the Islamic regime came, there was no school for women,” Sakha said. “Here you have a chance an opportunity to be a useful person in your own society or community, you have a chance to go back to school.”
After Morrison’s death, last year Sakha bought the company and is now helping others establish new careers.
Bruno’s Schools of Hair Design helps new Canadians establish themselves in Canada. The vision is the same as it has been in the past but under new management.
