Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) are calling on the next federal government to take strong action to protect Canada’s industrial economy.
The group has released a set of policy recommendations titled ‘Blueprint to Strengthen Canadian Manufacturing.’
Among their recommendations are less regulation, lower taxes and more training support for workers.
CME says the sector needs a major investment from the federal government to compete with its American counterparts, who receive around three times more funding per worker than Canadians.
“The economic threats from the U.S. are a wake-up call,” said Dennis Darby, president and CEO of CME.
“The next federal government must act decisively to reposition Canada’s economy – rapidly and meaningfully – with bold policies that support manufacturers and workers by making it easier to invest, build and grow.”
