Canada continues to face high food inflation as grocery prices climbed the fastest pace in more than four decades in August.
The cost of store-bought food was up 10.8 per cent in comparison to last year. This is the fastest climb recorded by Statistics Canada since 1981.
Dalhousie University food professor Sylvain Charlebois says food inflation has prompted people to save money by changing their shopping habits. That includes shifting where and how people by their food, shopping at discount stores, buying cheaper brands, and taking advantage of loyalty programs and weekly flyer coupons.
Experts say food inflation is expected to ease in the next few months as input costs decrease.
