Canadian folk singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot dead at 84

Gordon Lightfoot, the iconic Canadian folk singer known for his songs that told tales of Canadian identity, passed away on Monday at the age of 84.
His family announced that Lightfoot passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and died of natural causes.
The news comes just weeks after he recently canceled a planned tour of North America due to health issues.

Tributes from around the world have been pouring in since the news of his death, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who says, “we have lost one of our greatest singer-songwriters.”
Lightfoot is survived by his wife Kim Hasse, his six children, as well as several grandchildren.
