Canada’s top trending athletes
Olympic fever has started, and so have the Google searches for Canada’s favourite athletes.
According to Google Canada, figure skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are top of mind for Canadians, becoming the top trending athletes leading up to the Sochi olympics.
The figure skating duo beat out Team Canada hockey captain Sidney Crosby. Google’s list of top trending Canadian Olympians is dominated by hockey players, but Canada’s figure skaters definitely gave them a run for their money.
Fans will have to wait until Sunday to see the pair compete, but can catch figure skater Patrick Chan as he competes in the short program later today.
Coming in fourth spot is women’s hockey player Hayley Wickenheiser followed by bobsledder Kaillie Humphries and hockey’s PK Subban.
Another trending Olympic topic is security. The Russian government says it’s doing everything possible to ensure safety at the games, even as the U.S. warns airlines that terrorists may try to smuggle toothpaste tubes carrying explosives into Russia.
