Canada-U.S. border closure extended to September

Canada and the U.S. have agreed to keep the border closed to non-essential travel until Sept. 21.

Public Safety Minister Bill Blair tweeted the news Friday morning.

We are extending the reciprocal restrictions at the Canada-US border for another 30 days, till Sept. 21, 2020. We will continue to do what’s necessary to keep our communities safe.

The Canada-U.S. border has been closed to so-called “discretionary” travel like vacations and shopping trips since the pandemic took hold of the continent in mid-March.

The United States has been grappling with fresh COVID-19 outbreaks across the country in recent weeks.
