Canada Post has reportedly laid off 50 employees earlier this week as part of a “corporate-wide restructuring.”

A statement from the crown company released Thursday says the corporation is continuing to respond to the “significant financial and operational challenges it faces.”

According to Canada Post, half of the laid off management employees were located in Ottawa, with others located in Toronto and across the country.

The statement further reads that Canada Post had eliminated 20 per cent of its senior roles in January as part of their restructuring of its senior executive.

The crown company also says that it had issued a management hiring freeze in place since last year, and is reviewing vacant positions when employees retire or leave the company voluntarily.

Canada Post says the layoffs will not impact service to Canadians.
