Canada Post and its second largest union reach an agreement

Canada Post and the union representing over 8,500 employees, the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association (CPAA), have agreed on a new collective agreement.
The Crown corporation and the CPAA announced Thursday afternoon that after 18 months of negotiations, the two parties were able to successfully negotiate.
The employees represented by the CPAA are primarily responsible for managing post offices in rural Canada.
The new agreement between the parties includes an 11 per cent wage increase over three years, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2024 – with a 6 per cent increase for 2024, 3 per cent increase in 2025, and 2 per cent in 2026.
The new collective agreement between Canada Post and CPAA is effective from Jan. 1, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2026.
The agreement follows after Federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu put the Crown company’s latest offers to unionized postal workers up for a vote last week.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers posted Tuesday it did not have any information on voting dates, despite the minister asking for the vote to happen as soon as possible.
The post reads that the National Executive Board and negotiating committees were unanimous in recommendations for members to vote “no” on the Canada Post Corporation’s final offers.
