Canada is planning to help the country of Laos by restarting funding to help with its deadly infestation of cluster bombs.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird will reportedly announce a $1-million contribution during a trip to the country Tuesday. The funding will be managed through a United Nations agency. Canada contributed more than $2-million between 1996 and 2011 to help clear cluster munitions from Laos. But then cut its funding in 2012. Laos is the country most contaminated by cluster bombs, after U.S. B-52 bombers dropped two million tonnes of bombs on it over nine years.
