Cab attack suspect gets bail

(Video added) The 19-year old accused in the vicious beating of a Hamilton Cab driver appeared in court today for a bail hearing.

Zacharia Ristic has been released on $5,000 bail.

Ristic appeared nervous today in court. He was often biting his nails and hiding his face while prosecutors read the details of a vicious assault. Those details are protected under a publication ban.

After his release, Ristic had an emotional outburst on the sidewalk at one point, pushing his hands into the concrete walls.

He walked out of the courthouse with his mother. Charged with aggrivated assault and robbery, Ristic was released into the care of his grandfather. Other conditions of his bail are that he is not to have any alcohol and he is not allowed to call a cab. He is also prohibited from contacting the other witnesses.

Ristic has no previous criminal record.

Shortly after pushing the wall on the side of the courthouse he and his mother were picked up and left just after four.

The alleged victim in this case, Muhammed Anwar Sajid was in surgury today. The 55 year old father of five has a broken fmeur, injuries to his pelvis and elbow, and a dislocated shoulder. He has also experienced memory loss. His family says recovery could take months or even years.

Sajid called his wife on the night of July 16th just after 11 pm saying that he was in trouble as he lie on Limeridge road near his cab. He has been in Hamilton General Hospital ever since.

CHCH News spoke with Muhammed’s oldest daughter Zunaria and informed her of the decision. She said that she was shocked and disappointed by the decision.
