Butterflies down in Mexico

Spring may be around the corner, but one sure sign of the season is expected to be sparse this year. Monarch butterflies have reached record low levels in Mexico, meaning few will survive the long trip back to Canada a few months from now.

What’s causing numbers to drop, and how we can reverse the problem?

Tthis is a trend we’ve been seeing for several years, but the most recent numbers are particularly striking. Few butterflies flew south this past fall because of a late breeding season and depleted habitat. even fewer will return.
