Burlington’s rapidly rising tennis star Victoria Mboko will be awarded the key to the city on Friday.

The ceremony will take place at noon at the Robert Bateman Community Centre on New Street.

Mayor Marianne Meed Ward will present the 19-year-old with the key in the public ceremony.

“Victoria has risen rapidly through the tennis world, making national and international headlines, representing Canada, and Burlington, with true grit, determination and pure talent,” read a statement from the City.

Mboko won the 2025 National Bank Open in Montreal in early August at the age of 18, defeating former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka in the final. She is currently ranked 18th in Women’s Tennis Association rankings.

“This special ceremony is our chance to celebrate her incredible achievements and to show how Burlington supports its rising stars. I encourage everyone—family, friends, neighbours—to come out and bring your team spirit,” said Meed Ward.
