Face coverings are now mandatory in public spaces inside condos and apartment buildings in Burlington.

The city already has a bylaw requiring masks or face coverings in enclosed public places, which went into effect last month.

Starting Aug. 20, that bylaw will also include common areas inside condos and apartments.

“We listened to our residents who have been requesting additional protections for public areas in condos and apartments,” said Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward.

“We need to use every tool we have to keep our community safe wherever they are.”

Burlington city council also approved the extension of the mask bylaw until Jan. 31, 2021.

The bylaw can be rescinded earlier or extended beyond that date.
