Brief overview of Hamilton’s 2023 Fraud and Waste Report

The City of Hamilton’s fourth annual Fraud and Waste Report was released Thursday and outlined $132,000 in total losses for the City.

There were 159 reports made, a number that increases every year since the fraud and waste hotline was launched in 2019.

Nine employees were terminated as a result, with “other actions taken” against nine others.

Other interesting findings in the report include a fake vendor impersonating a real vendor and scamming the city out of $52,000.

Six employees submitted false claims for orthotics and compression socks, resulting in $31,000 in losses.

An employee allegedly operated a Zamboni while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

And an employee was caught working full-time for two different cities at the same time.
