Brantford approves new rules requiring pigeon registration and banding

Pigeon owners in Brantford will now have to register and have their birds banded under new rules approved by council.

The move is meant to address complaints about bird droppings, but the Canadian Racing Pigeon Union says Brantford is unfairly blaming pigeons.

They say pigeons don’t defecate in flight, so the real problem may be other birds.

Brantford officials say the animal by-law ensures they can contact pigeon owners if there are issues.

Officials note only a handful of complaints were ever filed.
