Brant County firefighters are planning to conduct a controlled burn this Saturday to train firefighters and officers in fire dynamics.
“These controlled burn exercises allow our crews to train in real-world conditions while maintaining a strong focus on safety,” Fire Chief Darren Watson said in a press release. “It supports the development of our newest members and reinforces the expertise of our seasoned firefighters and Fire Safety Officers.”
Training will cover fire attack size-ups, fire dynamics, and evaluating thermal cameras. A fire attack size-up is the continuous evaluation of a fire scene, starting from the alarm until the fire is controlled. Fire dynamics involve understanding how fires start, spread, and extinguish.
Firefighter training will run on Feb. 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 73 West River Road, Paris, Ont.
Chief Watson is asking residents to avoid the area if possible during the controlled burn, as it will be smoky and multiple fire service vehicles will be on-site.
