(Update)
It’s been one week since a sudden and severe storm hit — and Burlington was the target. Two months worth of rain fell in just a matter of hours — and overnight there could be another round of serious rain.
It started to rain in Burlington at about 10:15pm and it is expected to continue all night long. Here in one of the hardest hit areas — most people around here are saying ‘no more rain’.
“Right now, everyone on the street is just holding their breath. Everyone just said ‘it’s going to rain, oh my God it’s going to rain’.”
A neighborhood hit hard by last week’s rainfall and for many, the cleanup is far from over.
“Mostly just wet dry wall and flooring and we are just tearing that all out to eliminate the mould.”
And with more rain on the way.
“Don’t say that. Not 20 to 40. But at least the city removed the tree that was blocking the river there so the water will be able to flow out.”
Restoration crews are working around the clock to repair the damaged homes -the forecast could slow things down.
“We won’t get to reconstruction, we’ll be able to get to the reconstruction quite a bit later that’s part of the problem. The administration of all the things that have happened are usually where some of the delay happens.”
Environment Canada is calling for 20 to 40 mm of rain in most places across southern Ontario — but also states that it could be more.
“Before 20 to 40 mm of rain was nothing. But that night was a surprise to have happen what happened.”
“We don’t need more rain.”
Environment Canada says this storm will be different than the last. The previous storm had lots of rain in a short period of time. This will bring less in a longer period of time.
