Body found in lake off Niagara-on-the-Lake

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is examining the circumstances related to a man’s body being recovered from Lake Ontario in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Niagara Regional Police were called after 7 o’clock last night to Townline Rd to check on the welfare of someone. Niagara emergency medical services, the Canadian Coast Guard and St Catharines fire also responded.

Firefighters pulled the man out of the water, but he could not be revived. No details on his identity have been released.

Neighbours say they did not see or hear anything.

The SIU takes over an investigation if someone is injured or dies while police are involved.
