Investigators are looking for the cause of a massive house fire in Fort Erie Wednesday night.
It took fire crews more than two and a half hours to control the blaze in the home at corner of Crooks and Brook Streets. Flames and smoke were billowing from all over the roof and out the windows.
Initially crews believed there may have been someone trapped inside — but fire officials say that person has been accounted for.
Tom Forster, one neighbour on the scene says the person who was inside didn’t want to come out at first.
“My buddy saw flames and smoke and knocked on the door and talked to the occupant. He said ‘is your house on fire?’ and they said ‘no it’s not, close the door.’ He knocked again and the person said ‘yeah it is, come with us,’ pulled him out. My buddy Dan Spor, tried to run up the stairs but there was too much smoke and so he ran back out and I guess at that point, there was already some people on the scene.”
The home is completely destroyed.
