Prime Minister, Premier announce investment into $1.4B upgrade to Honda plant

Honda Canada says it’s retooling its plant in Alliston to build the 2023 CR-V and CR-V hybrid vehicles.

The federal and provincial governments announced on Wednesday they will each invest more than $131 million towards a $1.4 billion makeover.

The funds are expected to help with the transition to hybrid-electric vehicles.

Honda has promised to go fully electric by 2040.

Ford has said he wants to ramp up electric vehicle manufacturing but would not commit to offering a previously scrapped rebate to help people buy them.

Ottawa offers buyers a discount of up to $5,000 for zero-emission vehicles and $2,500 for hybrids but the vehicles’ base price must be less than $45,000.
