Beckett Drive close to completion

Construction on the Queen St hill is moving along.

The city of Hamilton posted the above picture on Twitter this morning to give an update, saying crews are working around the clock to finish paving this week — weather permitting.

The opening of the Queen St hill – official name, Beckett Dr – has been delayed several times. Rebuilding retaining walls along the escarpment and saving a threatened butternut tree have slowed down the $4 million project.

The city says it doesn’t have a final completion date yet. Until it’s done, drivers are being advised to take the Claremont Access or Jolley Cut instead of the heavily congested James Mountain Road access.
