Beamsville bugged by fewer flies

Beamsville residents bracing themselves for another summer infested with flies are breathing a little easier this year. Residents say at this point – it’s so far, so good.

Last summer they were plagued by flies they say came from a pair of neighbourhood duck barns. It was so bad they couldn’t sit outside in the summer. But other than an infestation that occurred in May, residents tell CHCH News there have been no major problems.

Neighbour Frank Tirimacco believes there are no ducks in the barns right now. “Let’s see what happens when those ducks are in there for a month or so, if he says he has ducks in there.”

“I’ve seen him fill the barn up with shavings so I imagine that when he did that he was going to put the ducks in there at the same time but I probably didnj’t see him put the ducks in, that’s all. But I’m pretty sure if he’s going to put ducks in there it’s going to get bad again. It’s just a matter of time.”

Agriculture experts have put pest strips in neighbourhood yards to see home many flies are collected.
