Bats in the Greenbelt could pose a development problem

A group called Greenbelt Guardians has found seven species of endangered bats in areas set to be removed from the greenbelt for housing.

Greenbelt Guardians say developing the land would wipe out their summer roosts and nesting sites. They say they’ve also found endangered butternut trees near the greenbelt lands, and are looking for them within the protected area.

The group is searching greenbelt sites for more endangered species and talking to lawyers about triggering an environmental investigation into the province’s building plan.

Al Sweeney has the story.
