Baratov Extradition

Karim Baratov may or may not fight his extradition to the U.S. his lawyer said today. The 22-year-old Ancaster man is accused of helping Russians hack into sensitive U.S. email accounts.
Karim Baratov smiled briefly at Justice Andrew Goodman today and looked around court without seeing any family members there. He was denied bail in April. Baratov’s lawyer, Amedeo Dicarlo, thinks the quickest way to get him out of jail is to deal directly with U.S. authorities on the U.S. charges.
The crown, Heather Graham, made it clear she doesn’t think the court needs any more dates; under extradition law Baratov is only entitled to the evidence used to decide whether or not he should be extradited and he already has all that information. But Dicarlo wants to know what U.S. authorities have on Baratov before he risks taking his client to the U.S.
Baratov’s lawyer is expected to have an update at the next court date, July 19th. The extradition hearing is set for September 8th.
