Bantleman’s family provides CHCH with an update

Burlington teacher Neil Bantleman is back in prison after his acquittal was overturned by the Supreme Court in Indonesia last week. Bantleman’s family provided CHCH with an update last night.

Neil is being held in a cell with over 300 inmates. Bantleman’s lawyer in Indonesia says they are waiting on a copy of the Supreme Court’s ruling to study and file for a judicial review.

Last April Bantleman was found guilty of sexually abusing three children at the Jakarta International school where he worked and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In August he was acquitted but Indonesia’s highest court has sent him back behind bars, for 11 years.

Throughout the case Neil has maintained his innocence. A judicial review could take six to nine months.
