Banana thrower charged

Police have charged a 26 year old London man for allegedly throwing a banana onto the ice during an NHL pre-season game in an incident that may have been racially motivated.

It happened at the Labatt Centre in London when someone threw the banana at Philadelphia Flyers player Wayne Simmonds, who is black, as he was taking part in the shoot-out.

Chris Moorhouse has been served a summons under the trespassing act.

If convicted, he could be fined up to $2,000.
