VIDEO: Canadian music fans are mourning the loss of one of the country’s most recognizable voices. David Clayton-Thomas, the Grammy-winning singer who helped make “Blood, Sweat and Tears” one of the biggest bands of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, has died at the age of 84. The Toronto-raised performer was known for hits like “Spinning Wheel,” “And When I Die,” and “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy.” David Clayton-Thomas went from a troubled childhood on the streets of Toronto to international stardom. He led “Blood Sweat and Tears” to multiple Grammy award nominations and two wins, even besting the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” in the race for album of the year in 1970.
