Arrest made in Ancaster Little League bleachers theft

Hamilton police have arrested one person in connection with the theft of the Ancaster Little League bleachers on June 27.

The aluminum bleachers worth around $14,000 were originally reported as stolen from the baseball diamond located at 268 Jerseyville Rd. on June 27.

The bleachers were ultimately found damaged beyond repair at a local scrap yard.

Chris Davies, promotions and events director for the league, spoke with CHCH News following the theft and said that the league feared the thieves would return and attempt to steal the remaining bleachers.

Following the theft, the community rallied together raising over $15,000 on GoFundMe to replace the seats. Ancaster Little League says community members continue to donate.

Through investigation, police were able to identify 28-year-old Naithan Bachiu-Tait of Hamilton as one of the individuals involved in the theft.

On July 20, Bachiu-Tait was arrested and now faces five charges, including theft over $5000, trafficking in property over $5000 and failure to comply with probation.
