Armed man arrested at Rideau Hall in Ottawa: RCMP

The RCMP say an armed man has been arrested after an incident at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Police say the man was able to access the grounds around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

Rideau Hall is the official home of Governor General Julie Payette.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family are also living on the property at Rideau Cottage.

Police say the Prime Minister and Governor General were not there at the time.

A large number of police officers responded to the scene and at least one armoured car was seen entering the grounds of Rideau Hall.

(1/2) At approximately 6:40 this morning, an armed man was able to access the grounds of 1 Sussex Drive. The Prime Minister and the Governor General were not present at the moment of the incident.
