Arbitrator orders reinstatement of Hamilton asphalt workers

An arbitrator has decided 15 city of Hamilton workers who were fired two years ago will get their jobs back, after an asphalt and time theft investigation.
Six of the workers accused of time theft, misuse of city vehicles and neglect of duty will not be re-hired. The 2013 terminations came after complaints and a detailed investigation was launched. The city claimed some of the employees were only working partial days, while getting paid for full days.
The union for the workers says the workers suffered mentally and emotionally for two years, and they’re pleased the majority of the workers are coming back. But the city says while it respects the decision, it stands by the initial firings.
