Anya’s cancer in remission

The family of a six year old Ancaster girl who is undergoing an experimental treatment for cancer received good news today.
Anya Martinez’s family says the experimental therapy she’s been receiving in Philadelphia has put her leukemia into remission. I spoke to her father today from the hospital and he told me they were there speaking with doctors about Anya’s treatments.
Four years ago, the little girl was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In July, she flew to Philadelphia where she underwent a new cancer treatment that uses her immune system to fight the disease.
Her family was forced to raise money to pay for the experimental surgery until the province stepped in and agreed to cover the costs which could run as high as $800,000.
Anya and her family are preparing to come back home. They say although this is a huge step for Anya they aren’t finished treatment.
They’ll be returning to Philadelphia in November for another spinal tap and bone marrow then coming back every 2 to 3 months.
