A trial began today for an Ancaster man accused in the drowning death of a boy in St. Lucia.

Sahab Jamshidi had been vacationing before continuing his medical education when he was accused of taking the 4-year-old boy for a kite surfing ride without permission.

He faces a charge of causing death by gross negligence or recklessness.

Jamshidi maintains he only found the child struggling in the water and tried to help.

He will return to court on January 20th. His family says they are worried the trial could drag on for months, or even years, because there are only two judges in the entire country.
