It’s a nightmare for anyone who looks after children, your car taken with the child still inside. That’s exactly what happened Friday morning. A car was left running in north Toronto in the Jane street and Lawrence avenue area. It was found more than three hours later near Church and Weston road.
At 6am Christina Nguyen’s parents placed her in their car, with the engine running in the driveway of their home. They went inside for just moments to get another child and when they came out, they found the car and their daughter gone.
Christina’s parents immeditaley called 9-1-1 and an Amber Alert was issued. Police began the start of a short but intensive search. In the end, someone walking spotted the abandoned black Toyota Camry not far from the Nguyen’s family home. Officers found Christina inside the stolen car it was unlocked and the engine was running.
Police say they believe the incident is a vehicle theft gone wrong and was not intended to be abduction. Early on in the investigation Toronto police received numerous tips saying a car matching the stolen vehicles description had been seen on the 403 but police now say those reports are believed to be incorrect and it’s unlikely the thief travelled outside of Toronto. The car thief remains at large. Police aren’t releasing a possibly description at this time but say the investigation continues.
Christina is said to be in good spirits and as for her family, they’re just happy to have her back and are thanking everyone who helped in the search.
