Amazon Prime Video sets launch date for ads in Canada

Amazon Prime Video has announced that it will be adding commercials to its Canadian streaming services in February, 2024.
Representatives for the company say as of Feb. 5 there will be ad breaks launched within its TV and film programming.
The ad tier system will now be the default of Prime’s membership, though subscribers will have the option to opt out of commercials for an additional $2.99 a month.
Prime Video is the latest streaming service to announce the addition of ads as many companies look to ad tiers on their cheapest monthly plans as a way to boost revenue.
The company first outlined its plans to launch “limited ads” in September, saying it would screen “meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers”, though it did not provide exact details on what those commercials would look like.
Viewers in the U.S. will begin seeing ads a week earlier on Jan 29, 2024.
