There’s a classic comedy at Theatre Aquarius. Boeing Boeing is now on stage at Hamilton’s Dofasco Centre for the Arts. CHCH’s Alex Reynolds reviews the show.
Farce, a traditional form of entertainment, gets a modern telling when a swinging bachelor uses airline time schedules in juggling multiple relationships.
“The three gorgeous air hostesses who are his ‘fiancees’ and totally unaware of one another, and his friend that shows up.”
The always marvelous Valerie Boyle glows as the exasperated housekeeper caught in the middle of this romantic merry-go-round.
“I’m the one I think I help my boss Monseur Bernard, I help him keep everything sort of, a change, change if Mademoiselle Gabriella from Italy comes in, or Mademoiselle Gloria, I switch from America to Italy, or to Germany.”
Farce feeds on exaggeration, and there’s plenty in this French confection which generously tickling of the palette.
“I love comedy, and I love doing farce. Comedy is an art. There are people that think comedy is easy; it is not. You have to get people working with you.”
Though it dates back to 1962, Boeing Boeing isn’t exactly a theatrical relic.
Boeing Boeing is playing at Hamilton’s Dofasco Centre for the Arts through February 21st.
