Alberta premier Alison Redford says re-building the many communities left drenched and dirty from flooding could take ten years.

She insists the province will do what it takes to repair the damage from torrential rains that sent rivers spilling their banks at unprecedented levels. To kick start the recovery, Redford’s government approved one billion dollars to support evacuees and relief centres, and start re-building infrastructure.

Those who qualify will receive preloaded debit cards to help them with their immediate needs.
