Air Transat averts pilot strike as union reviews tentative deal

There is relief for Air Transat passengers, after the company reached a tentative deal with its pilot union Tuesday night.

The deal narrowly avoided a strike that was set to start Wednesday, ahead of holiday travel.

Air Transat’s flight schedule was disrupted earlier this week after it began to cancel flights in anticipation of a labour standoff.

The Air Line Pilots Association was aiming for a new contract that boosts wages, job security and quality of life following big gains for aviators at Air Canada and WestJet over the past two years.

Details of the tentative deal won’t be released until the union representing 750 Air Transat pilots review the agreement.

Pilots will vote on it over the next few days.
