After weeks of outrage, the anarchist group The Tower is reporting that activist Cedar Hopperton has been released from jail. Hopperton was arrested after speaking at Hamilton City Hall about the violence at the pride event at Gage Park last month.

The arrest of Hopperton caused outrage across the country with different groups calling for their release.

After giving a fiery speech at Hamilton City Hall, Hopperton was arrested for allegedly breaching parole conditions.

They were the first person to be arrested after the pride event on June 15th at Gage Park that turned violent. Protesters and those celebrating fought and several people were hurt. There is no indication that Hopperton was at the pride event.

Hopperton’s alleged breach of parole conditions is tied to their conviction last year for being part of the Locke Street vandalism spree. We spoke to Hopperton’s lawyer who says he has not received any direct confirmation that they have been released but says based on very credible information, Hopperton has been freed.
